It built a legal crew-recovery plan in under a second, then refused to auto-approve it. That refusal is the point.
When a storm grounds an airline hub ⛈️, the operations control center has to re-crew a cascade of downstream flights under FAA Part 117 duty limits and union CBA rules. Today that is a 4 to 12 hour manual scramble (a sourced industry benchmark). StormCrew, our shadow-mode IROPS recovery advisor, collapses it to seconds.
On a normal storm in our seeded scenario, it re-crewed 52 of 53 grounded flights in about 0.11 seconds, with 0 illegal assignments. Legality is masked out in code at the moment duties are generated, so an illegal duty cannot even be produced. It is a guarantee, not a score.
Then we made the day worse. Reserves exhausted, only about 30 percent of crews left. CBC, the real solver doing the optimization, still returned a legal plan in roughly 0.05 seconds. But that plan would cancel 20 of 53 flights, 38 percent, past the operations center's 15 percent auto-approve threshold. So the status flipped to ESCALATE, human sign-off required. The plan is still shown, still legal, still surfaced for the controller. It just does not get rubber-stamped.
Most autonomous pitches skip that part. Knowing when not to auto-approve a bad day is exactly what earns a controller's trust on the worst day of their year. StormCrew augments the Jeppesen or IBS stack an airline already runs. It does not replace it, and it uses the solver rather than claiming to beat it.
