Someone gamed their money-laundering compliance training with an AI assistant. Perfect answers, fast. We certified zero of it.
We built Attest to read how each learner actually works through a course and infer what they know, concept by concept, with a real knowledge-tracing model. Your LMS tracks completion. This tracks competence.
The interesting part comes after the model runs. This learner (synthetic, one illustrative case in the demo) answered fast and perfect across 18 unrelated compliance concepts, a pattern that doesn't look like real recall. On apparent mastery alone, plenty of it would have passed. But a concept certifies only when three things hold at once: mastery clears the bar, the evidence is thick enough, and the response pattern isn't anomalous. Miss one, and nothing gets certified.
So this wasn't a "gotcha, you cheated" flag. It was 18 concepts routed to "needs proof," seat time withheld, and a signed record you hand an auditor instead of a checkmark that proves nothing. We certify what we can prove, and we never bluff a green check.
When someone races through your mandatory training, does anything downstream check whether the learning actually held, or does the record just say "trained" and move on?
