- In our synthetic San Francisco scenario, a 0.91 facial-recognition score still gets BLOCKED. Confidence cannot make a prohibited scan lawful. 🧵
- We built that alert as SF-0002: raw vendor score 0.91. The seeded jurisdiction table marks facial recognition as prohibited there. The deterministic policy gate returns BLOCK before a security workflow can act.
- The raw vendor score and the policy gate answer different questions. The score ranks match strength. The gate decides whether the scan may enter the workflow. Evidence cannot overrule the prohibition.
- FaceTrust demonstrates the Biometric Decision Firewall. In the demo, a stubbed vendor adapter normalizes the alert, then deterministic jurisdiction and consent checks run before route selection.
- For SF-0002, the route is BLOCK. It is not a legal opinion or compliance certification. It is an operational control based on the demo's seeded jurisdiction table, applied before the alert becomes a people problem.
- Rule order matters. Calibration and 93% conformal prediction sets can describe evidential uncertainty. They do not override a prohibition. Lawfulness is a decision input, not documentation added afterward.
- We keep the human boundary explicit too. None of the routes automatically confronts, detains, or accuses a person. Even CONFIRM means routing to a trained reviewer to action.
- Each decision writes a SHA-256 hash-chained record and can export a printable HTML audit exhibit. That makes the BLOCK traceable: what arrived, which deterministic gate fired, and which route followed.
- Question for privacy counsel and security architects: when a scan is prohibited, should the system discard it before calibration, or compute evidence for the audit record while guaranteeing BLOCK? #BiometricPrivacy #PrivacyEngineering #AIGovernance #FacialRecognition
