A smart meter update can reduce predicted failures and still leave too much risk to recommend a release.
In our synthetic MeterGuard example, a proposed hotfix sharply lowers predicted failures for the same generated fleet. Its average modeled failure rate is 2.85%, but the upper end of the modeled range reaches 4.1% of the meters with enough data to assess. The demo's rule returns NO-GO at 3.0% or higher on that upper estimate.
For a utility team, a useful review looks beyond how much the forecast improved. Check the remaining uncertainty and which meters the forecast leaves out. Here, meters missing telemetry are excluded and recommended for manual review; the lower estimate says nothing about their condition.
We keep the decision rule in code so it can be inspected. The model's estimate of firmware behavior still affects the verdict, so checking those inputs matters alongside checking the rule. This is a simulated recommendation; no firmware is released.
