A sales AI startup raised $74M, put logos of customers it didn't have on its site, and churned 70-80% of its early users.
That was 11x.ai, exposed by TechCrunch in March 2025. ZoomInfo's one-month trial found it performed significantly worse than humans. The logos stayed up anyway.
Extreme case — but the pattern underneath is everywhere. AI SDR tools churn 50-70% a year. The first 30 days look great; by day 90 the damage shows. The mechanism nobody prices in:
→ Single-pass AI gets 12-18% of prospect-specific claims wrong. At 1,000 emails a day, that's up to 180 confidently false messages in executive inboxes — flawless grammar, wrong facts. Each tags you as a company that didn't check.
→ In November 2025, Gmail stopped sending non-compliant mail to spam and started rejecting it at the server. Cross a 0.3% spam rate and recovery runs 6-12 weeks — while invoices and password resets from that domain get throttled too.
The fix isn't a better template. It's verification built into the pipeline, not bolted on after — every claim checked against source data before it sends. Signal-personalized outreach converts ~5x better than generic blasts, but only when every claim is true.
Here's the part the volume pitch skips: humans book fewer meetings than AI but generate 2.6x the revenue. The real question isn't volume — it's whether your stack checks facts first.
What's cost your team more — the hallucinated prospect details, or the deliverability hit?
